Volunteer

Daily Bread hosts hundreds of volunteers who contribute more than 50,000 volunteer hours each year! We LOVE our volunteers! We hold a volunteer recognition event each year during Volunteer Appreciation Month where long-time volunteers are recognized for their tireless efforts advancing our mission. Throughout the year, we hold regular volunteer appreciation events and work to match volunteers with duties they love. If you’d like to learn more about becoming a volunteer, please read the information below and then email Peggy Sowders at Peggy@dailybreadinc.org

Because we are blessed with an abundance of volunteers, we have streamlined our volunteer process. Here is some important information to know BEFORE you show up to volunteer:

  • Volunteers must be scheduled and may not “just drop-in” at any time.
  • Holidays, particularly Christmas and Thanksgiving are the most popular volunteer times. Please request volunteer hours on these days as soon as possible so that we may accommodate you.
    • As to not disrupt operations, we no longer accept volunteer drop-ins, particularly on holidays. If you are not scheduled, you will not be permitted to volunteer.
  • Both one-time volunteers and recurring volunteers must complete a volunteer interest form, you can access the form to the right.
    • Once you complete the form, you will be contacted for a brief interview and scheduled for a volunteer shift(s).
  • Both one-time volunteers and recurring volunteers must undergo a volunteer orientation prior to volunteering (this includes volunteer groups).
  • Volunteers must agree to treat our clients with dignity and respect or they may be relieved of their volunteer duties.
  • All volunteers must sign a release of liability form and a confidentiality form before they can volunteer.

Volunteer Opportunities include:

  • Thrift Store sorters, greeters, and customer service assistants
  • Outreach Center receptionists
  • Clean Team (doing laundry, assisting with showers and providing our neighbors with clean clothes)
  • Dining Facility cooks (must be a trained/certified cook and undergo safe food handling training in addition to volunteer training)
  • Dining Facility servers
  • Dining Facility Greeters
  • One-time projects in our Food Distribution Center (this is great for for faith-based institutions, high schools, or social organizations who would like a one-time large group volunteer option)
  • Special Events
  • Clerical Support
  • Much, much more!

Please complete the volunteer form to the right, and email it to Peggy@dailybreadinc.org we will contact you once we have availability. Thank YOU!
